Essential Oil Treatments for Labor Pains
Labor pains are the pains experienced by pregnant women during the uterine contractions that signal the beginning of childbirth. Essential oils used to alleviate labor pains include sage and raspberry leaf, which has a long history of use throughout pregnancy and during labor, to prevent haemorrhaging and assist with contractions.
Aromatherapy using essential oils can also help ease labor pains by helping the mother to relax and ease muscle tension; lavender and frankincense oils are both excellent for this. Studies have suggested that women who use aromatherapy during childbirth report less labor pains overall, and also require less pain medication.
