Diarrhea

While it can definitely be embarrassing and an inconvenience to talk about, diarrhea is unfortunately a part of life. If you even have eaten something bad, are taking certain medications, or have a illness that causes it, you know that it can be very troublesome. It can also be caused from nervousness and stress in your daily life.

Diarrhea is a condition whereby the sufferer repeatedly passes watery or very loose stools for a period of time, ranging from a few hours to a few days, depending on severity. Diarrhea can have several different causes, and other associated symptoms, most commonly stomach cramps and dehydration. The most common cause of diarrhea is gastroenteritis, a bowel infection, which can be triggered by a virus, such as norovirus, bacteria, most commonly picked up from contaminated food (known as food poisoning) or surfaces, or parasites found in contaminated water. Diarrhea is also a symptom of anxiety in some people, and can be caused by some medications. Several different essential oils can be used to treat diarrhea, depending on its cause – for example, tea tree is an excellent antibacterial.

Frankincense essential oil is an astringent that is a known agent to stop diarrhea. If it it caused from an illness, you can use Thyme or tea tree essential oil. If you are nervous or stressed and is causing the problem, please try lavender, peppermint, or lemon essential oil. If you have gotten it from eating something bad and suspect that you have food poisoning, please try thyme, lavender, and ginger in a bath mixture with some Epsom salt.
